Filat: No Early Parliamentary Elections to be Conducted in Moldova

Leader of the Liberal Democratic Party of Moldova Vladimir Filat is convinced that the new Parliament will succeed in electing the President, so that no early parliamentary elections will be needed.

In his interview for the Timpul newspaper, he expressed an opinion that the present situation is not similar to the situation after the parliamentary elections of April 5, when the opposition refused to have a dialogue with the authorities and granting it a vote, which they needed for electing the President.

At the parliamentary elections of April, 5 there were a number of swindling cases, which provoked the dramatic events of April 7. If we had had a dialogue with Vladimir Voronin, it might have signified that we negotiated with those, who came to power in an unlawful way and killed people. The situation is different now – we shall have talks with them, but without accepting the proposed conditions and will ensure the election of the President not by means of blackmail, pressure and corruption", the LDPM Leader declared.

He considers it impossible for the Communists not to vote – as they are directly responsible for the social and economic situation in Moldova, without touching upon other aspects.

"The Communists understand too well, if they provoke early parliamentary elections again, it may happen that the Communist Party will obtain only 20 mandates. And the situation, including the international one, will make them grant their votes without excessive pressing on the society", Filat underlined.

In his words, the ruling democratic coalition does not intend to give to the Communists a single post in the Government and in the state to be naturally occupied by the opposition, excluding some positions in the parliamentary standing committees.

The LDPM admits that in the course of talks with the Communists the opposition will have to grant certain guarantees to them, but not personal, on the party level.

"But it must be clear to everybody that each person, who violated the Law in Moldova, will be made answerable. If Vladimir Voronin violated the Law and it is proved in a respective way, he will be made answerable for his deeds", Filat said.

He underlined that the decisions on the nomination of the President, the Speaker and the Prime minister have not been taken for the time being and the rumors, which are disseminated, may be considered as deliberate information leakage, in order to provoke debates.
