Chisinau insists that council of C.I.S. premiers examine wine problem

Moldova has asked that the wine problem be discussed at an extraordinary sitting of the Economic Council and at the council of CIS premiers later, in order to identify optimum solutions and to make Russia withdraw the interdictions on Moldovan wine imports.

The press service of the Foreign and European Integration Ministry said that the Moldovan delegation spoke out about suspension of importation and trading of Moldovan wine production in the Russian Federation at a sitting of the Council of CIS Foreign Ministers on April 21.

According to a declaration delivered by Foreign Ministry, the political statements of the Russian authorities alleging that the wine products from Moldova have a low quality harm the authority of the country in this field. In the context, "the Moldovan side describes the unilateral and unannounced measures taken by Russia as unfriendly towards Moldova and capable to bring a huge damage on wine producers, importers, exporters, entire Moldovan economy. The measures will finally affect the traditional commercial and economic relations between Moldova and Russia," reads the declaration.

The Foreign Ministry said that solutions acceptable by both sides have not been found until now and reiterated the readiness of Moldova to negotiate and to find solutions to the present problems. "In our opinion, there are a series of reciprocal understandings both in documents of CIS and in bilateral acts capable to solve problems of this kind."

The extraordinary sitting of the Economic Council, which is expected to discuss the importation of Moldovan wine and cognac, will take place in Moscow on April 28. The sitting of the council of CIS premiers will take place on May 25.

The Russian Federation restricted the importation of Moldovan wine products on March 27, saying that they contain heavy metals and pesticides. // BASA-Press
