Four parties hold new round of talks on post-election coalition

The Liberal Democratic Party of Moldova (LDPM), the Liberal Party (LP), the Democratic Party (DP), and the Moldova Noastra Alliance (MNA) held a new round of negotiations on forming a post-election coalition.

The top leaderships of the LDPM, LP and DP met in a quiet restaurant outside Chisinau last Sunday, and negotiated the topic for about 2 hours. MNA leader Serafim Urechean did not attend the assembly but followed the conversation by means of a cellular telephone because he was outside the republic yesterday.

That was the second meeting of the 4 parties after the July 29 elections. They refrained from making whatever statements for the press and said they only exchanged opinions, without negotiating posts or functions yet. They will continue the talks, and the press will hear their statements later.

This past weekend, Democratic Party Chairman Marian Lupu held a meeting with Moldovan bloggers, during which he expressed confidence that the four democratic forces will succeed in forming the sought coalition and in attracting 8 votes from the Communist party faction needed to elect a new president of the republic.

Lupu presumes the Communists should sacrifice their party interests and agree to give state power to the new democratic majority.
