Dignity and Truth Platform’s leader harshly attacks a US institution. He is upset with the polls’ results

The leader of the Dignity and Truth Platform Party (PPDA), Andrei Nastase, launched an unprecedented attack on the International Republican Institute (IRI), after the institute’s polls showed that PPDA has no chances to get into Parliament and that the leader’s rating has halved.

Andrei Nastase stated during a TV show at Jurnal TV that the surveys presented by IRI have been influenced by the Democratic Party’s leader Vlad Plahotniuc. “Unfortunately, the polls in Moldova became to be used to influence the local public opinion and international decision makers. We must consolidate ourselves and find a way for polls to be made by honest people, by trusty sociological institutions, and not by those who are controlled for some reasons by the institutions of Plahotniuc” said Andrei Nastase.

The recent survey presented by the International Republican Institute, a remarkable US organization, shows that if elections are held next Sunday, the Dignity and Truth Platform will score only 4%, and will not reach the electoral threshold level. Moreover, the trust in the leader of PPDA is also decreasing. Thus, half a year ago Nastase had a rating of 12%, but now only 6% of the people surveyed stated they trust PPDA’s leader.

The PAS leader Maia Sandu and PPDA leader Andrei Nastase met with Johannes Hahn, European Commissioner for Neighborhood Policy and Negotiation for Enlargement, in Strasbourg.

According to Maia Sandu, during the meeting, the most important topic on the agenda of the society was addressed – the need to ensure free and fair elections.

“I informed the official of the growing and increasingly frequent abuses of the government, the hallucinatory allegations of homeland betrayal launched by the ruling party to the opposition, the unprecedented measures of intimidation and harassment of all those who do not obey the regime,” declared Maia Sandu.

The PAS chairman said that the leaders of the ACUM resistance movement were assured that the EU will closely monitor the electoral process in the Republic of Moldova and will do its utmost to determine the government’s compliance with the international standards for free and fair elections.

The Russian Federation may be involved in the Moldovan parliamentary elections of February 24, 2019. The statement was made on Tuesday, December 11, by the US Ambassador to Moldova, Derek J. Hogan, during an official visit to the city Balti, writes Nordnews.md.

The US diplomat met with deputies Gennady Shmulschii and Lilia Sava.

In addition to representatives of the local public administration, Hogan also met with representatives of political parties in the territory.

“I do understand that you’re on the eve of the parliamentary elections and so I wanted to know how the process is going on here,” said Derek J. Hogan.

Derek J. Hogan has also mentioned that it is possible for the Russian Federation to intervene in the elections of February 24, 2019, just as it happened in the United States in 2016.

“We believe that the involvement in a country’s internal affairs is not a rarity. As you  already know, this has also happened in the US and we believe that it is very likely to happen here as well. So, we work very actively with authorities and political parties in order to inform them about our experience,” the US diplomat noted.

Maia Sandu and Andrei Nastase criticize the Romanian Government for blocking a negative EU report on Moldova

Published

Pro-European Leaders of Chişinău, Maia Sandu (PAS) and Andrei Năstase (DA) criticize the PSD-ALDE government in Bucharest for blocking a negative report prepared by the European Union against the majority in Chisinau, controlled by oligarch Vlad Plahotniuc.

“It is already well-established that whenever international political cover for lawlessness and thievery in the Republic of Moldova is needed, oligarch Plahotniuc can count on the unconditional support of Liviu Dragnea and Victor Orban. The government in Bucharest, flanked by Russia’s loyal friends in Budapest, refuses ostensibly to admit anti-democratic slippages in Chisinau, placing itself on the oligarch’s side to the detriment of the citizens – a sad triumph of the centenary year” in a joint statement by Maia Sandu and Andrei Năstase, posted on Facebook.

“After the PSD-ALDE political party’s PD-PSRM political cartel, following the change of the electoral system to the benefit of the pro-Russian party in Moldova, after the moral support offered by Dragnea to Plahotniuc with the invalidation of the Chisinau elections won by pro-European and pro-Romanian government, the government in Bucharest decided to block a critical report on Plahotniuc’s regime, to be adopted by the Foreign Ministers of the European Union. The report denounces the violation of democratic practices by the Chisinau authorities,” the two pro-European political leaders in Chisinau said.

Sandu and Năstase highlighted the provisions of the EU-prepared report for the Republic of Moldova:

  • The commitment to democratic principles, the rule of law and respect for human rights are at the heart of the EU-Moldova Association Agreement, and the events in Moldova this year, “including the invalidation of elections for the Chisinau City Hall”, “caused significant worries” respect for this commitment by the Moldovan side,
  • EU foreign ministers expect the parliamentary elections announced for February 2019 “to be conducted in line with international standards, respecting democratic principles and ensuring a credible, transparent and comprehensive process.”
  • The huge concern about the “growing number of reported cases involving pressures and intimidation” against the opposition, free media and civil society as a whole,
  • Asking all candidates of the Moldovan authorities to provide access to the media and equal opportunities to participate in the elections,
  • Demanding the presence of “an appropriate number of polling stations” from the Moldovan authorities, both in the country and abroad.
