Moldova must "adopt a stance contrary to violence that took place during the Soviet domination," Goran Lindblad, Swedish lawmaker in the Parliamentarian Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE), has said. <\/p>\n

Contacted by BASA, Vlad Cubreacov, member of the Moldovan delegation to PACE, said that the Moldovan delegation did not discuss yet its own stance regarding the resolution on the need for international condemnation of the crimes of communism. Anyway, every member, not the entire delegation, votes, he noted. "Me, personally, I intend to address the session in favour of this resolution," Cubreacov noted. Representatives of the Communist Party who are members of the Moldovan delegation to PACE avoided statements on this topic. <\/p>\n

Goran Lidblad, member of the European People’s Party, was quoted by the Romanian news agency Mediafax, as saying that Moldova must adopt the resolution on the need for international condemnation of the crimes of totalitarian communist regimes, a resolution that will be debated at the winter session of PACE, because "the party that self-proclaims communist and rules Moldova for a couple of years does not apply the communist ideology exactly." <\/p>\n

“There has never been any Communist regime to rise to power but avoid a form of dictatorship, or retain that power somehow else but in terror. Moldova is a very exception.” “As a rule, as soon as the Communists climb to power without a partner, they turn to enforce the doctrines of Marx and Lenin, and those who thought of terror as a means to keep the power invented the GULAGs and other terrifying things,” said Lindblad in the same context. <\/p>\n

Also, Lindblad insists on adoption of the resolution on "the need for international condemnation of the crimes of totalitarian communist regimes," because such an international condemnation did not exist until now, though there are more victims of the communism than of the Nazism. The Swedish politician considers that communist parties and their successors should assume responsibility for five decades of bloody dictatorship in East Europe. <\/p>\n

Parliamentarian Goran Lindblad hopes that the resolution will “help the truth to come back and will give the victims of communism who a still alive and their relatives a moral comfort, since all were hit by the awful crimes of communist regimes.” He also suggests maintaining the discussion open, because communist regimes have survived in countries like China, Cuba, North Korea, and Ethiopia. <\/p>\n

The Winter Session of PACE will take place on January 23-27. Deputy Speaker Maria Postoico will head the Moldovan delegation in Strasbourg. The PACE parliamentarians are to adopt a draft resolution and a draft recommendation on the need of international condemnation of the crimes of communism and attempt to justify the Nazism. The decision to work out these drafts comes in response to requests of CoE member states.
