An expert in the field of energy delegated by the European Union will come to Chisinau on Wednesday to examine the possibility of Moldova joining the Energy Community Treaty signed by 34 countries so far. <\/p>\n

EU spokesperson Pia Ahrenkilde Hansen Tuesday told in Brussels the visit of the EU delegation was planned beforehand and has nothing in common with the signature of the contract for the supply of Russian gas to Moldova, Associated Press informs. The EU welcomes the signature of the contract between Gazprom and MoldovaGaz but would not want to be involved in talks over a long term gas supply, the official said. <\/p>\n

“The negotiations between Moldova and Russia bear a bilateral character and it would not be appropriate for us to intervene directly in this process,” Ms Hansen told a press conference. <\/p>\n

The European experts will analyze the possibility of Moldova joining the Energy Community Treaty following the example of Ukraine which signed a Memorandum Agreement with the EU in this respect in December 2005. <\/p>\n

Under the terms of the contract for the supply of gas signed between Gazprom and MoldovaGaz on 16 January currently Moldova will purchase gas at $110 dollars per thousand cubic meters during the first three months of this year.
