Head of the Russian-Transdnestr Information and Analytical Center Alexei Martynov commented on the governmental crisis in Ukraine: <\/p>\n

“Political crisis in Ukraine will gain profit to Moldavia, which, despairing of settling the Transdnestr issue for the benefit of itself, is trying to use Ukraine for it. Just before the New Year, on December 30, 2005, Moldavian Prime Minister Vassily Tarlev signed an agreement with Yuri Yekhanurov in Kiev, according to which all goods from Transdnestr crossing the Ukrainian border should undergo customs registration in Moldavia, i.e. practically, in another state. The agreement is in fact a gross violation of the Memorandum of 1998 about normalizing relations between Moldavia and Transdnestr. It will come into effect on January 25. <\/p>\n

”Now that Ukraine is facing a power crisis, and the Ukrainian government is, I would say, in the sate of half-dismissal, Moldavia has loose hands towards Transdnestr, as Ukraine will not be able to control the situation on the agreement in the future. That means that Transdnestr will find itself in an economic blockade. And as long as the Ukrainian crisis continues Transdnestr will remain blockaded.
