The governmental crisis in Ukraine is an internal problem of the neighbouring country and it will not affect the relations between Kiev and Chisinau, Deputy Premier Andrei Stratan, foreign and European integration minister, stated to BASA on Wednesday. <\/p>\n

Stratan said that the Moldovan authorities want very much that the Ukrainian leadership settles successfully the governmental crisis challenged by a Tuesday decision of the Supreme Rada. Also, the deputy premier stressed that interstate obligations and understandings will remain in effect regardless of eventual reshuffles. He envisaged the supply of electricity and agreement on supply of natural gas from Ukraine to Moldova until the latter signs a new contract with the Russian enterprise Gazprom. <\/p>\n

The European Commission described on Tuesday evening the decision of the Ukrainian parliament to sack the executive as democratic. The spokesman for the commissioner for foreign and neighbourhood policy told journalists that Brussels is carefully watching the developments in Ukraine and it hopes that the acting government would ensure stability and continuity of political processes and economic reforms in country. <\/p>\n

According to the press service of the Ukrainian president, President Yushchenko and U.S. Secretary of State Condolisa Raise discussed by telephone on Tuesday, at the initiative of the American official. It fell short of saying whether the two officials discussed the governmental crisis in Ukraine. <\/p>\n

President Viktor Yushchenko said after the Tuesday decision of Ukrainian lawmakers to sack the Kiev cabinet of ministers that the decision of the Rada is unconstitutional and noted that he could contest it in the Constitutional Court. Several opposition factions voted the dismissal of the cabinet of ministers because of the recent agreement on importation of Russian gas that many Ukrainian political forces have vehemently criticised. At the same time, Yushchenko said that this agreement is good for Ukraine and an optimum compromise was reached. President Yushchenko is in Astana, Kazakhstan, where he attends the investiture of President Nursultan Nazarbayev for a new mandate. <\/p>\n

The Ukrainian Rada obtained the right to sack the cabinet of ministers on January 1 after a constitutional reform initiated in Ukraine. Under legislation, lawmakers do not hold the right to create a new cabinet until the 2006 spring parliamentary elections.
