\"\"Social Liberal Party Chairman MP Oleg Serebrean says he has declined the official offer to become Moldova’s Ambassador to the United States made by Deputy Premier, Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration Andrei Stratan. <\/p>\n

In his interview published in the VIP Magazine of Chisinau, Serebrean said he would be unable to remain Ambassador for long because the Communist authorities in Chisinau would hardly tolerate him in Washington for more than a year. <\/p>\n

Serebrean said he had put forward two conditions to the Moldovan authorities to accept their offer – "to spare me of the necessity to ask President Voronin’s permission for every trifle, and to let me recruit personally the embassy team to work with". <\/p>\n

"I should confess the desire to accept the offer was quite big, and many of my Western friends, including in America, advised we to agree. But you know perfectly well that in the current conditions the role played by Ambassador to the U.S.A. is perhaps more important than that of Foreign Minister’s. A successful ambassadorial mission would signify an excellent start for the 2009 election campaign in Chisinau.
