President Vladimir Voronin is contented with Tarlev Government’s activity over 2005. According to the head of state, the criticisms leveled at the Council of Ministers did not target its dismissal. <\/p>\n

Vladimir Voronin participated in the last meeting from this year of the Council of Ministers, during which he appreciated that many of the ambitious tasks projected for 2005 were carried out. Among the year’s achievements, Voronin mentioned the resumption of the negotiations on the settlement of the Transdniestrian dispute and the attraction of the European Union and the US to this process. We had success in tackling the Transdniestrian problem from the most important international rostrums. The head of state said also that the initiatives concerning the institution of the international monitoring at the Moldova-Ukraine border have been implemented finally. <\/p>\n

As the President states, the country’s territorial reintegration will be a prerogative in the authorities’ activity in 2006 as well. “Moldova will not give up settling this problem,” Voronin reiterated. <\/p>\n

In addition to the achievements related to the European integration, the head of state mentioned the successful signature and implementation in initial stage of the Plan of Action Moldova – European Union. <\/p>\n

A great success achieved at the end of this year in president’s opinion is Moldova’s inclusion in the EU Generalized System of Preferences. This provides opportunities of increasing the exports of Moldovan goods to the European market, as well as of attracting large inflows of foreign investments, Voronin said. <\/p>\n

Referring to the achievements obtained in combating poverty, head of state remarked that the poverty index decreased four times over the past years. Voronin stressed that these indexes must not make the top officials relax specifying that the problem of poverty continues to be a serious one in Moldova, especially in rural areas. In 2006, the actions taken by the government “must reach any person affected by poverty,” the President said. <\/p>\n

Vladimir Voronin appreciated also the positive results in implementing medicine through insurances, enhancement of social protection, increase in population’s incomes. <\/p>\n
