\"\"Moldovan Speaker Marian Lupu today met the Bulgarian extraordinary and plenipotentiary ambassador to Moldova, Nikolay Iliev, according to the parliamentary press and image service. <\/p>\n

The officials reviewed the current stage of the bilateral relations. Lupu hailed the full contribution of the Chisinau-based Bulgarian embassy, which supported and facilitated the bilateral dialogue at governmental and parliamentary levels. <\/p>\n

Iliev described as excellent the political relations between the two states, but, he said, there is a large economic potential that has not been fully used yet. <\/p>\n

In the context, Lupu proposed that the participants in the next meeting of the intergovernmental commission for economic cooperation review the actions taken so far, as well as set new collaboration trends, especially taking into account the fact that Bulgaria will accede to the European Union (EU) in 2007. <\/p>\n

Lupu stressed the need to adjust the bilateral relations’ normative framework to the European realities. "We are already seeking new cooperation models, which are to take into consideration Bulgaria’s future status as EU member state, and we are set to propose qualitative amendments to the legislation on the bilateral relations," the Moldovan speaker said. <\/p>\n

As for the parliamentary dimension, the two sides are to take concrete steps in order to boost contacts, both at the level of the parliaments’ leadership, of the interparliamentary friendship groups, and within a common meeting of both legislatures’ standing commissions. <\/p>\n
