Liberal Party opts for renewal of the political class through promotion of youths, but it does not intend to change its leadership, in spite of the success that its candidate Dorin Chirtoaca has registe red at elections in the Chisinau municipality. <\/p>\n

Chirtoaca ranked the second place at the past two elections for the Chisinau mayor-general post regarding the number of garnered votes. Many political analysts forecasted Chirtoaca’s appointment as PL chairman. <\/p>\n

PL leader Mihai Chimpu told a news conference on Tuesday that he does not intend to tender resignation from his post "at the indication of some analysts." "Democratic parties in Moldova continue to promote people from former nomenclature to posts and the y discredit the principles of democracy this way. However, we train Chirtoaca to rule the state, not the party," Chimpu added. <\/p>\n

Chritoaca did not comment Chimpu’s offer. He thanked his electors at the news conference and expressed concern with the repeated failure of elections in Chisinau. In the context, he noted that the exclusion or reduction of the electoral threshold for rep eat elections would be a reserve solution. Also, he highlighted the need of a continued motivation of voters to attend the elections through increased efforts of parties, electoral bodies and civil society. <\/p>\n

The PL candidate ranked the second place at the December 11 repeat scrutiny in Chisinau after garnering 35.62 percent of votes.
