President Vladimir Voronin is on a working visit to Bucharest on December 10. The chief of state met with his Romanian counterpart Traian Basescu and participated in the opening of the Moldovan Wine Festival in Romania, according to the BASA reporter from Bucharest. <\/p>\n

The two presidents had a private meeting at the Cotroceni Palace by noon. The meeting focussed on the Moldovan-Romanian bilateral relations. <\/p>\n

The Moldovan president said after the private meeting of the two heads of state that the bilateral relations this year registered a significant progress and upgrading in all fields, including political, economic and cultural. <\/p>\n

Voronin expressed gratitude to President Basescu for Romania’s support for Moldova at all international forums, especially for the Transnistrian problem, noting that he expects the relations to develop in more dimensions in continuation. <\/p>\n

Voronin said that both Chisinau and Bucharest are very unsatisfied with the results of the recent OSCE Ministerial Meeting in Ljubljana, Slovenia, which failed to pass a decision on the Transnistrian problem for the third year in a row. He noted that per haps the Transnistrian conflict issue was the most important one during talks of the two presidents. <\/p>\n

At the same time, President Voronin underlined that unfortunately the results of the European Union’s Border Assistance Mission to Moldova and Ukraine are not very promising for the time being. <\/p>\n

Also, he noted that the larger format of the Transnistrian settlement negotiations did not register progress so far. Basescu said that his meeting with his Moldovan counterpart focussed on the Transnistrian problem and cooperation with international orga nisations, as well as on political relations between the two states, and promised that any difficulty related to higher gas or energy prices that Moldova could face in the near future will be solved with the support of Bucharest. He invited Chisinau not to hesitate to notify Bucharest over its problems because Romania has resources to help Moldova in this area. <\/p>\n

As regards the Transnistrian conflict, Basescu said that Chisinau must obtain the political control on the entire territory of the country, in compliance with Moldova’s Constitution. The Transnistrian problem was discussed including at the recent meeting of the Romanian president and Condoleezza Rice, during her visit to Bucharest. Basescu underlined that Romania must have in continuation a vanguard tackling of the Transnistrian problem and proposed the Kosovo version that Bucharest formulated two month s ago as alternative solution to the conflict. <\/p>\n
