The independent candidate, Vasile Ursu, harvested the most of votes in the new local elections for the office of Chisinau general mayor, which were not validated because of low vote turnout. <\/p>\n

According to preliminary data presented by the Election Council of the Chisinau Constituency (CECC), Ursu obtained 46.7 per cent of votes of 22.3 per cent persons who cast their ballot. The candidate of the Liberal Party, Dorin Chirtoaca, ranks second, with 25 per cent of votes. The candidate put forward by the Our Moldova Alliance, Mircea Rusu, comes the third, with 9.71 per cent. <\/p>\n

The other challengers obtained the following results: Valentiun Krilov, from the Patria-Rodina-Ravnopravie (Motherland-Equality of Rights) – 6.93 per cent; Eduard Musuc, representing the Modlovan Social Democrat Party – 4.91 per cent; the candidate of the Green Alliance Ecology Party, Oleg Cernei, – 4.09 per cent; Olga Nicolenco, coming from the Social-Liberal Party – 1.85 per cent. The candidate put up by the Patria-Rodina Labour Union, Gheorghe Sima, comes the last on the list with 1.23 per cent of votes. <\/p>\n

The 27 November new local elections were not validated because of the low vote turnout. CECC chairman Ion Stratulat has earlier told MOLDPRES that, under the given circumstances, the Central Election Commission is to set in two weeks a new date for repeated local elections. The candidates registered for the new local elections will participate in the repeated elections too. If the vote turnout is less than 33 per cent at the repeated local elections, then the Central Election Commission will set a new election date within 60 days. <\/p>\n
