\"\"The new local elections from November 27 have failed for the third time this year because of a low turnout. Under the legislation, one third of the voters had to take part in the polls for the elections to be declared valid. The turnout was 23.3 percent yet, according to preliminary reports. <\/p>\n

The Electoral Code provides that under such circumstances repeated elections must take place in two weeks. <\/p>\n

Preliminary election returns show that independent candidate Vasile Ursu garnered the largest number of votes: 46.7 of the poll. Ursu is followed by Dorin Chirtoaca, representative of the Liberal Party (PL), who won 25 percent of the ballot. <\/p>\n

Mircea Rusu on behalf of “Our Moldova” Alliance (AMN) gained 9.71 percent of the poll. Valentin Krylov representing the Electoral Bloc “Patria-Rodina-Ravnopravie” obtained 6.93 percent of the vote. Eduard Musuc, representative of the Social Democratic Party (PSDM), comes next with 4.91 percent. <\/p>\n

Oleg Cernei, candidate of the Ecological Party “Green Alliance” got 4.09 percent of the vote, while Olga Nicolenco, who represented the Social Liberal Party (PSL), garnered 1.85 percent of the poll. <\/p>\n

Gheorghe Sima, representative of Labor Union “Patria-Rodina” obtained the lowest number of votes: 1.23 percent of the ballot. <\/p>\n

From the very beginning of the electoral campaign the analysts expressed skepticism about the validation of the November 27 elections saying that the voters are tired and disinterested in candidates’ pledges. <\/p>\n

Political analysts Igor Botan, told REPORTER.MD that though he described these elections as inopportune from the start they were beneficial for some candidates who profited by them and demonstrated there is a new political trend. <\/p>\n

Speaking of the election returns, especially of the position of the PL representative Dorin Chirtoaca, Botan said that he was the surprise of these elections. <\/p>\n

“From political viewpoint, Dorin Chirtoaca is the winner of the elections, while Mircea Rusu is the loser as it is obvious he lost the support of many voters,” Botan reasoned. <\/p>\n
