President Vladimir Voronin was on a private visit to Moscow last weekend. Presidential spokeswoman Natalia Visan confirmed for BASA that the chief of state has visited the Russian capital and underlined the private nature of this trip. <\/p>\n

The visit agenda is unknown because this was not an official visit of the chief of state. According to the Russian newspaper Kommersant, President Voronin has attended a show by known Russian humorist Genadie Khazanov, participated in the jubilee of an o ld friend, former trade minister of the former USSR, Kondrat Terekha. The Russian publication quotes presidential adviser Mark Tkaciuc as saying that the Moldovan leader had no intention to meet with Russian officials and, therefore, ha did not have any meetings because he visited the Russian capital as private person. <\/p>\n

Also, the newspaper cites anonymous sources from the Russian administration as saying that the Moldovan president tried to relieve the relations with Moscow, but Russian dignitaries turned down his requests for meetings. <\/p>\n

The same publication published last week an interview with Dmitri Kozak, former Moscow’s representative and chief negotiator of Russians in the process of drafting of the Kozak Memorandum which called for settlement of the Transnistrian conflict through federalisation of Moldova that President Voronin had turned down.
