\"\"MPs from some parliamentary factions are in favor of starting the procedure of dismissing the Moldovan President Vladimir Voronin after he renounced in public the commitments he made to the opposition in exchange for which they voted for him on 4 April 2005. <\/p>\n

Valentin Balan, MP from “Our Moldova” Alliance (AMN), who read the declaration of the faction, told Tuesday in an interview for Pro TV Chisinau channel that the head of state “brutally violated the law and European standards”. “Voronin proved lack of adequate understanding and lack of respect for the ECHR decisions referring to the respecting of human rights in Moldova in the case of the Metropolitan Bessarabian Church and in the cases of the employees of the Chisinau City Hall,” the document reads. <\/p>\n

AMN MPs said the President must be sanctioned for using the TV channels in promoting a candidate for the position of general mayor in an abusive manner, which contravenes the European norms. <\/p>\n

The leader of the Democratic Party Dumitru Diacov showed his disapproval of Vladimir Voronin’s behavior and especially of the fact that he renounced in public his commitment to depoliticize the position of president, taking as priority his obligations towards the Communist Party. “On April 4 Voronin took part in the meeting of “Our Moldova” Alliance party and promised to renounce the position of party leader, but now he is denying everything he promised. I would like to know if it was just a joke,” Diacov said. <\/p>\n

The leader of the Social-Liberal Party Oleg Serebrian said “it was Vladimir Voronin who needed the votes of the opposition on April 4, not the opposition needed him. That is why he made some commitments to the MPs who voted for him”. <\/p>\n

On Tuesday President Voronin denied in a program broadcasted by Pro TV Chisinau he had ever promised anything to the opposition MPs who elected him on April 4. He said they only conversed. <\/p>\n

Under the Moldovan Constitution, the head of state can be dismissed from position if two thirds of the MPs (71 votes) vote in favor, in case he violates the stipulations of the Constitution.
