\"\"The detachable slip enclosed to the voting papers for the November 27 local elections will not include data about voters’ identity cards as the previous version of the Electoral Code envisaged. The modifications were passed Friday at the plenary meeting of the Parliament. <\/p>\n

New changes to article 17 of the Electoral Code regarding the appointment of the chairman, deputy chairman and secretary of the Central Electoral Commission (CEC), amendments to article 48 concerning the data included in the detachable slip of the ballot paper and to article 54 as regards the detaching of the slip from the ballot paper have been introduced in line with the bill on the modification and completion of the Electoral Code passed in first reading. <\/p>\n

“Our Moldova” Alliance MP Dumitru Braghis pointed out the amendments to the articles about the filling in and detaching of the slip have been introduced in order to prevent others from finding out secret information and to avoid any unwarrantable interference on the part of the members of the District Electoral Offices. <\/p>\n

Asked to comment upon the recent amendments to the Electoral Code, analyst Igor Botnar said the arguments of the MPs are groundless, as the data about the identity card are anyway included in the electoral registers and are not secret. Moreover, these slips can be destroyed after elections. <\/p>\n

“As to the concept of detachable slip in general, the voting process in several districts and in Chisinau municipality serves as a pilot project for verifying the utility of the slip,” Botan concluded. <\/p>\n

Petru Railean, CEC chairman, told the press that the modifications adopted by the Parliament regarding the appointment of the CEC leadership are welcome, but the persons that hold these positions at present might express their disapproval of this. <\/p>\n

“I requested this question to be examined after the 27 November elections, but remarking the lack of interest of some CEC members I consider it would be better to solve this problem before the elections,” Railean said. <\/p>\n
