Transdnestr Moldavian Republic under several conditions can join Ukraine, Ukrainian Foreign Ministry Special Representative Dmitry Tkach said after the negations on Transdnestr problem settlement that took place in Kishinev and Tiraspol on October 27-28. By the way, he did not give any detail in what status the territory could join Ukraine. At the same time, Dmitry Tkach noted, that talks about Transdnestr joining Ukraine had been held for a long time. <\/p>\n

“Transdnestr joining Ukraine will be possible if Moldavia changes its international legal status, for example if it becomes a part of any state. Then, residents of Transdnestr would have an opportunity to decide their fate at a referendum, a result of which could be joining Ukraine, Russia or any other state. These regulations were signed by presidents of Moldavia, Ukraine, representatives of Transdnestr, the Russian Federation and the OSCE,” Tkach was quoted as saying by MIGnews. <\/p>\n

At the same time, he said, some Romanian politicians say they are ready to annex Moldavia to Romania without Transdnestr. “In any case, as far as I know, the Moldavian leadership is not going to join any country,” Tkach added. <\/p>\n

On the whole, the negotiations that took place on October 27-28, according to Tkach, have shown that the problem resolution have moved from the dead stop. <\/p>\n

As Tkach believes, Transdnestr could obtain a definite status in about a year and a half. “As a political analyst, I can suppose, that it would be something between a wide autonomy and a federation,” said Tkach at a news conference. <\/p>\n

However, Transdnestr will be able to acquire a status only after elections recognized by the international community.
