William Hill, Head of the OSCE Mission in Chisinau, said talks on Transdniestria that took place in October 27-28 in Chisinau and Tyraspol proved that those involved in the conflict were very far from each other, says AP Flux. <\/p>\n

After a 15-month break, the first round of negotiations on Transdniestria was held at the end of last week. The new format included the representatives of Chisinau, Tyraspol, OSCE, Russia and Ukraine, along with EU and US as observers. Reintegration minister Vasile Sova took part in talks, along with Transdniestria’s alleged minister of foreign affairs Valeri Litkai, head of the OSCE Mission to Chisinau William Hill, Russia’s representative Valeri Nesterushkin, Ukrainian representative Dmitri Tcaci, EU representative Adriaan Jacobovitz de Szeged and US State Department adviser Steven Mann. <\/p>\n

Hill opined that the victory in these talks consisted in the participants’ consensus that experts should go on elaborating the written statement on the monitoring of enterprises in Transdniestria’s industrial-military complex. Hill mentioned the poor results of negotiations, but expressed appreciation for the restart of talks in a new format. <\/p>\n

Jacobovitz and Mann expressed satisfaction that the EU and US could take part in talks, along with the hope that they would be able to contribute to solution. Steven Mann outlined the US wanted to support participants both as observer and by other means available. Next round of negotiations on Transdniestria is due in mid December.
