Moldovan President Vladimir Voronin stated over the NIT channel last Saturday that the dictatorship of law shall always be his stance. Commenting the recent arrests of Victoriabank president Victor Turcanu and Chadyr-Lunga Mayor Mikhail Formuzal, Voronin stated he had no relation to those arrests. <\/p>\n

“I am no prosecutor. I do not interfere in this. I shall only be insisting on the dictatorship of law. No matter who Voronin is – a dictator, a liberal or a democrat – he may not interfere into the law-enforcement’s work”, he said. <\/p>\n

The President voiced surprise that some forces tried to present the arrests in political colors: “Even on the least occasion, everyone starts talking of a “political order”. But who are they – Turcan, Formuzal and Klimenko – to present an interest for placing “political order” on them? They have bought themselves parties, but have preserved their criminal taint. They are shouting so loudly only because they are scared for their future”. <\/p>\n

Concerning the forthcoming election of Chisinau Mayor, the President said his ruling Communist Party may decide to render backing to the incumbent Acting Mayor Vasile Ursu. “We assess his work positively last several months”, Voronin said. <\/p>\n

The President categorically spoke for eliminating all route taxi minibuses, marshroutkas, from Chisinau streets. <\/p>\n

“The emergence of marshroutkas in the city [some 10 years ago] was a fruit of the corruptness of the then Municipality chiefs. The marshroutka herds kill everyone and everything in the city. We shall allocate 100 million lei from the Budget to purchase transport.
