A Moldovan parliamentary delegation led by Speaker Marian Lupu is accomplishing an official visit to Hungary today, during which the sides discussed development of bilateral cooperation, interaction within international and regional organizations, European integration issues, etc. <\/p>\n

During the meetings with the State Secretary for Political Issues of the Hungarian Ministry of Foreign Affairs Andras Barsoni and the State Secretary for Political Issues of the Bureau for European Affairs Joseph Veres, the Moldovan Parliament Chairman underlined that Chisinau is interested in gaining the Hungary’s European integration experience, and that Moldova needs technical assistance to define practical mechanisms of bringing the national legislation in line with European norms and to avoid errors in that process. <\/p>\n

Marian Lupu highly appreciated Budapest’s readiness to back – both on the bilateral level and within the OSCE, Council of Europe and European Union – Moldova’s efforts to get integrated into European Union and resolve the Transnistria conflict. <\/p>\n

He said, "Moldova would like to embark onto a new stage of cooperation with the European Union. Our current legal frame no more corresponds to the present-day reality and objectives of the European Neighbourhood Policy. As for the European Union\/Moldova Partnership & Cooperation Agreement [PCA], it was signed yet in 1995 and fails to reflect the existing reality". <\/p>\n

In his words, old instruments of financial and technical assistance can no more be used efficiently for implementation of the EU-Moldova Action Plan. <\/p>\n

"Also, we would like to promote the trade and economic aspect in our relations with the European Union. The current trade regime, based on the system of general privileges, has been overcome by now, and it now applies also to countries which are not included into the European Neighbourhood Policy. The Republic of Moldova wishes to receive a new system of autonomous preferences, and to have the activity of the European Investment Bank enlarged in order to cover our country, too", said Marian Lupu. <\/p>\n

The Moldovan Speaker called upon Hungary to support these aspirations of Moldova’s in the frameworks of the European Commission and the Council of Europe, stressing that this would become not only a tangible stimulus for the country’s economic development but also a valuable political assistance, a backing and encouragement of the process of Moldova’s integration into Europe. <\/p>\n

Budapest representatives confirmed Hungary will render to Moldova all necessary assistance to achieve the goal this republic has set to itself – European integration. They recommended Chisinau to draw up a list of priority fields in which Hungary could help.
