The Alliance for Democracy andReforms (ADR) asked president Lucinschi to appoint deputy premierNicolae Andronic or deputy premier Ion Sturza to the office ofpremier.<\/p>\n

The candidature of Sturza was proposed by the parliamentary groupof the Christian Democratic Popular Front, after the Moldovan Partyof Rebirth and Conciliation linked the support of Sturzacandidature with the withdrawal of Iurie Rosca from the office ofdeputy speaker.<\/p>\n

Rosca, CDPF leader, told the press that Sturza is accepted by allADR’s factions. Rosca said that Sturza is the sole reasonablecandidature, because he will be accepted by the chief of state, heis liked by the international financial bodies and will set up acabinet following the representation of political forces in theparliament.<\/p>\n

Rosca described the condition advanced by the MPRC as a joke,saying that MPRC knew that "the front will not be able to advance acandidate to represent in exclusivity the CDPF". Rosca said he willnot give up the office of deputy speaker of his own accord.<\/p>\n

According to Rosca, the MPRC could boycott Sturza team andcooperate with Communists to dismiss him from the office of deputyspeaker.<\/p>\n

Mircea Snegur, MPRC leader, said he will support the candidature ofSturza, depending on the program and the nominal membership of thecabinet, but also in exchange of giving up the post of deputyspeaker.<\/p>\n
