Deputy Premier and Foreign and European Integration Minister Andrei Stratan has asked OSCE Chairman-in-Office Dmitrij Rupel to reflect the need to settle the Transnistrian conflict and to withdraw the Russian t roops from Moldova, in compliance with commitments that Russia assumed at the 1999 OSCE summit in Istanbul, in the final documents of the December ministerial summit. <\/p>\n

Minister Stratan made public this request at a Tuesday meeting with Rupel in Chisinau, which was part of the tour of the OSCE chairman-in-office to Russia, Moldova, and Ukraine. <\/p>\n

Rupel said that the decision to visit the three states is related to preparations for the OSCE Ministerial Council, which will take place in Ljubljana, Slovenia, on December 5-6. <\/p>\n

According to the press service of the Foreign and European Integration Ministry, Minister Stratan reviewed the events that happened during the Slovenian OSCE chairmanship, in particular, the latest evolutions in the Transnistrian settlement process. The sides underlined the importance of the decision to enlarge the negotiation format through inclusion of the European Union and United States as observers. In this regard, the sides expressed confidence that the October 27-28 round of talks would encourage efficient negotiations on settlement of the Transnistrian conflict. <\/p>\n

Also on Tuesday, Rupel had a meeting with President Vladimir Voronin. <\/p>\n
