Kmnews quoted Zharikhin as replying to Voronin’s statement. “Maybe Moldova does not have problems with Russia, but Russia has problems with Moldova,” he said. “Russian citizens are illegally put under arrest and Russian observers are not allowed to supervise elections in Moldova. If they have no problems why do they “cry” over problems concerning the wine export? Why shout if there are no problems? They declare they are ready to starve and freeze. So, there are problems, aren’t there?” Vladimir Zharikhin was inquiring. <\/p>\n

In his opinion the deadlock over the Transdniestrian dispute is “a shame for Moldovan leadership”. “I have a feeling that Moldovan administration does not actually want to solve this conflict for the simple reason that Transdniestrian leadership proved to be more successful than the Moldovan leadership. In conditions of semi-blockade they maintained their industry and brought out their unrecognized republic at a much higher level than the rest of Moldova. That is why if the two parts unite the Moldovans will simply remove Voronin and will put Smirnov in his place. The Moldovan administration is afraid of this. That is why it invents all kinds of pretexts to prevent the unification”, Zharikhin said. <\/p>\n

After Voronin made the well-known statement that he would rather freeze without Russian gas than change his position on Transdniestria, a Russian delegation including deputy secretary of the Russian Security Council Iuri Zubakov, deputy chairman of Russia’s Chamber of Commerce and Industry Boris Pastuhov, representatives of the Ministry of Economy and of “Gazprom”, ambassadors with special missions Igor Savolski and Valeri Nesterushkin came to Moldova. At the end of the meeting with the Moldovan President that was held on Tuesday Iuri Zubakov said Russia is interested in solving the problems with Moldova. “Certain problems has arisen between our countries lately. The aim of our visit is to get a full description of these problems and to solve them.
