Moldovan President Vladimir Voronin has had a meeting with his Greek counterpart, Karolos Papoulias, within his working visit to Greece, according to the presidential press service. <\/p>\n

Papoulias said that the deep-rooted Moldovan-Greek relations have been continuously developing over the years, which has a positive impact on the political dialogue, and the economic exchanges, especially in agriculture. <\/p>\n

The Greek top leader said his country highly appreciates Moldova’s option for the European development vector, and it backs Moldova’s European integration efforts. <\/p>\n

President Voronin said the Moldovan-Greek relations based on mutual respect have an extremely solid foundation. It is important to know how to take advantage of this treasure, the head of state said. <\/p>\n

Voronin thanked his Greek counterpart for supporting Moldova on its way to European integration, and mainly for backing it to obtain the status of full-right member of the South East European Cooperation Process, which chairmanship is held by Greece at present. <\/p>\n

Voronin reiterated Moldova’s interest to open Greece’s permanent diplomatic representation in Moldova given the dynamics of bilateral relations. <\/p>\n

Papoulias backed the proposal, saying that Greece, in its turn, is interested to carry out tourism projects in Moldova. The Greek official spoke for starting an experience-exchange programme to train staff in tourism industry, sector in which his country has a vast experience. <\/p>\n

Voronin hailed his counterpart’s proposal, and spoke for creating a special tourism itinerary, which would be dedicated to the Greek heritage in Moldova, and which would include cultural and historic monuments connected to the activity of the Greek hetaeria and revolution in the first decades of the 19th century. <\/p>\n

The Greek president told journalists attending the event that he backs Voronin’s idea as in Moldova there is a large number of architectural monuments and other evidence of the Greek revolutionaries’ activity in Moldova. Papoulias proposed to Voronin to take under joint patronage the organisation of the above-mentioned itinerary. <\/p>\n

President Voronin told journalists that the two countries’ mutual interest has considerably increased over the last years.
