\"\"October 5, 2005 (moldova.org) — Speaking at the Foreign Policy Association World Leadership Forum 2005, Polish President Aleksander Kwasniewski called on the international community to get involved in Moldova. He emphasized the need to help this Former Soviet Republic in solving its 15-year old conflict in its Eastern region of Transnistria. "The international community, and especially the EU, in its policy toward the East, should not avoid such ambitious challenges, as the solution of the difficult problem of Transnistria", said Kwasniewski. He also said that EU doors should remain open for Moldova. "Moldova should also be drawn into the orbit of European cooperation", considers Polish President. <\/p>\n

The Foreign Policy Association (FPA) held its World Leadership Forum 2005 on September 15 at the PricewaterhouseCoopers Headquarters in New York City. This year, the Forum’s theme was entitled "Charting the Future in an Era of Uncertainty." President Kwasniewski was awarded the FPA Medal for his role in expanding public knowledge of international affairs. <\/p>\n

In its September 29th statement, the Presidency of the European Union on Transnistria, mentioned that the "EU welcomes the agreement by the representatives of the Republic of Moldova and Transnistria and the mediators Ukraine, the Russian Federation and the OSCE in Odessa on 26 and 27 September to [invite] the participation of the EU and US as observers in the negotiation process".<\/p>\n

Although this Odessa decision was an achievement in itself, analysts believe that the EU and United States should become full-right participants in the process of negotiations in order for the new format to be efficient. Next round of negotiations in the "5 plus 2" format is scheduled for October 27-28 in Moldova’s capital Chisinau. <\/p>\n
