Only two political parties have announced candidates for the November 27-scheduled local elections in Chisinau. <\/p>\n

The Party of Reform proposes its deputy chairman Dorin Chirtoaca, who garnered 7.13 percent of the votes at the July 10 elections. The European Party (PE), which was not registered yet with the Justice Ministry, will propose as independent candidate economic analyst Veaceslav Ionita. PE officials told BASA that the political bureau of the party has already passed a decision in this regard. <\/p>\n

Also, the Christian Democratic People’s Party (PPCD) did not decide yet who will bid for the Chisinau mayor post and whether it will propose its own candidate. PPCD secretary-general Ignat Vasilache stated to BASA that the PPCD leading bodies did not discuss yet the problem of elections in the Moldovan capital. On the other hand, sources in PPCD said that Gheorghe Susarenco, who won 7.02 percent of the votes at the local scrutiny last summer, is almost sure that he will not bid for the November 27 elections. <\/p>\n

Nor the Party of Moldovan Communists and Our Moldova Alliance decided who will bid for the mayoral post. Representatives of these parties said that a decision in this regard will be available the next two weeks. Communist candidate Zinaida Grecianii garnered more than 50 percent of the votes at the local election last summer. <\/p>\n

Contacted by BASA, Dumitru Braghis, who attended the July 10 scrutiny in Chisinau as independent candidate and won 20.65 percent of the votes, said that he did not decide yet whether to bid for the Chisinau mayor post. Also, Braghis proposed all the democratic parties to appoint a candidate for this office. He posted intention to convoke soon leaders of parties to discuss this issue. "If my candidacy is not proposed, I am ready to back the candidate on behalf of democratic parties, including Serafim Urechean. In general, I will not participate in elections if more than two right-wing candidates attend them." <\/p>\n

According to a plan approved by the Central Election Commission on Tuesday, candidates to the Chisinau mayor post will be able to register for the electoral race till October 28. Elections will take place after 27.2 percent of electors included in electoral lists attended the July 10 scrutiny, and 19.82 percent participated in the July 24 elections, while at least one third of voters included in lists must take part in order to validate the results of polls. \/\/ BASA-Press<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
