The negotiations for the signature of the basic treaty between Moldova and Romania will be closed, Presidents of Moldova and Romania, Vladimir Voronin and Traian Basescu, agreed Sunday in Iasi. <\/p>\n

According to the head of the Romanian state, the signature of the basic Moldovan-Romanian treaty is one of the priorities in developing the bilateral relations between the two countries. “The basic treaty should reflect not only an achievement of a political tandem to support Moldova in its efforts of European integration, but it must reflect also an excellent bilateral relation,” Basescu said. <\/p>\n

The Moldovan President emphasized that the Moldovan-Romanian relations showed upward trends lately. “The political opening that appeared between Moldova and Romania immediately after Traian Basescu was elected as President of Romania shows positive results. We have discussed these relations and the situations in different bilateral fields between Romania and Moldova again and we have agreed to follow the same way in continuation,” Vladimir Voronin stated. <\/p>\n

Traian Basescu has pledged that Romania will back Moldova in its efforts to become part of the European Union. The two chiefs of state said that the economic and cultural exchanges between Modlova and Romania will be intensified in the nearest future. <\/p>\n
