\"\"Moldovan and Ukrainian Presidents Vladimir Voronin and Viktor Yushchenko sought in a letter to OSCE to make up a committee responsible for the organization of elections in Transdniestria. The two officials spoke about this at a press conference held in Kiev on Wednesday. <\/p>\n

According to “Novosti Ukraini” news agency, the sides have discussed the implementation of the Ukrainian plan on the settlement of the Transdniestrian conflict, as well as the prospects of the coming meeting of Moldovan, Transdniestrian, Ukrainian, Russian and OSCE officials in Odessa, on September 26, which may lead to the resumption of talks in the five-sided format. <\/p>\n

According to Mr. Voronin, the negotiations on the status of Transdniestria must be resumed not later than November. The Ukrainian President proposed to resume the negotiations in seven-sided format, including the European Union and the US. <\/p>\n

Mr. Yushchenko said he and his Moldovan counterpart Yushchenko sought in a letter to OSCE to make up a committee responsible for the organization of elections in Transdniestria, in line with the OSCE standarts. According to Mr. Voronin, the date of elections will be set by the OSCE officials that will assess the extent to which the region is prepared for the elections. <\/p>\n

Last week, William Hill, head of the OSCE mission to Moldova, told that elections in Transdniestria must be organized by an electoral commission under OSCE mandate. “Only under these conditions we agree to the organization of elections”, Hill said. <\/p>\n

Moldovan and Ukrainian Presidents have also addressed the procedure of ensuring control at the Moldova-Ukraine state border. Mr. Voronin and Mr. Yushchenko have agreed on a new method of customs control of the transport means at the common border. According to Mr. Yushchenko, this project will be implemented in the shortest time. <\/p>\n
