Moldova has tabled the first report on implementation of the European Union’s Action Plan for Moldova to the European Commission. The report covers the first six months of activity and particularly envisages the Election Code and other amendments to legislation in compliance with recommendations of international organisations. <\/p>\n

Deputy Foreign and European Integration Minister Valeriu Ostalep told journalists on Tuesday that the report was "highly appreciated by European officials." Also, he admitted that European officials were short of time to draft recommendations on certain chapters. <\/p>\n

The document was drafted on basis of reports of the four intergovernmental commissions created after signing of the plan. Ostalep fell short of revealing details on this document, saying that it is too sizable and covers accomplishments in different areas, including economic sector. He added that a summary of the report will be published soon, as the entire document will not be made public. <\/p>\n

Moldova will table the next report to the European Commission in November. Ostalep indicated the regulation of migration and border security among directions that officials of the cabinet of ministers will work upon. <\/p>\n

Asked how civil society participates in work on report, Ostalep said that the permanent dialogue with NGOs representatives that Foreign and European Integration Minister Andrei Stratan had earlier promised did not begin yet, but assured that it will start soon. <\/p>\n

Ostalep underlined that he did not discuss with Brussels officials how funds will be allocated for implementation of the Action Plan. "The money will be allocated starting 2006 through the TACIS Programme. We will discuss then the sums and their management," he stressed. <\/p>\n

Asked whether Moldova still intends to become associated member of the E.U. by 2007, Ostalep stated that "the Chisinau authorities had never said what status we will have in 2007. The result may be better than we home now. The status of associated member is a strategic objective of the country, but we work now to reach the European standards, and this is the most important thing since the world is changing very rapidly and we cannot say what will happen at least after half a year," Ostalep added. <\/p>\n
