Serafim Urechean says he will renounce his parliamentary immunity to prove in court that the legal case filed against him has been manufactured. <\/p>\n

The leader of the parliamentary faction “Our Moldova Alliance” (AMN) has made this statement during the TV program “In Depth” on PRO TV Chisinau channel.<\/p>\n

Mr. Urechean said he would be present at the autumn session of the Parliament, starting its first meeting, and he would not wait until the matter of lifting his parliamentary immunity and that of other two MPs would be voted on. “I will renounce it myself to prove to the voters that the legal case opened on my name is a political one”, Serafim Urechean stated.<\/p>\n

Ex-mayor general of Chisinau is charged with “abuse of power” in a controversial deal on purchasing 40 ambulances for the Chisinau Emergency Service, as a result of which the municipal budget was defrauded of more than 3 million lei. Mr. Urechean said he would present in court proofs that the Moldovan Government paid by 7,000 euros more for each of those 30 recently purchased ambulances in comparison with the price paid by the municipality.<\/p>\n

“I will prove to the whole county that the legal case instituted against me was manufactured in order to prevent me from taking part in the session of the Council of Europe Parliamentary Assembly where I could inform the European community about all the injustices happening in our country”, Mr. Urechean added.<\/p>\n

Asked about his future plans regarding his candidacy in the anticipated local elections, Mr. Urechean avoided giving an answer. He promised yet a surprise to the Chisinau residents this autumn.<\/p>\n

In reply, Christian-Democratic MP Iurie Rosca, vice chairperson of the Parliament, also present at the program, said that the AMN leader cannot renounce his immunity because the Constitution stipulates it can be lifted only by voting.
