The project was submitted to the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) for approval. <\/p>\n

Vice President of the Parliament, Maria Postoico , member of the Moldovan delegation to the PACE, who took part in the meeting of the Monitoring Committee last week in Antalya (Turkey), told a press conference on Tuesday that the draft resolution is going to be discussed at the PACE meeting on October 3-7 this year. <\/p>\n

According to the cited source, the draft appreciates both the pro-European trend of the Republic of Moldova and its foreign policy stability. In this respect, the Monitoring Committee will suggest to the PACE to come with a message encouraging the progresses the Republic of Moldova made on its way to European integration. The Committee will also ask the Council of Europe to continue the democratic programs in Moldova and their financing. On the other hand, the members of the Committee said the situation in the fields of law, mass-media, local democracy, the fight against human trafficking should be improved, according to Postoico. <\/p>\n

Christian-Democratic MP Vlad Cubreacov, also a member of this delegation, said that this is the most favorable assessment given by the CE to Moldova since its adhesion to this organization. <\/p>\n

In Cubreacov’s opinion, it will be possible to lift the monitoring if the Republic of Moldova makes progress in adopting democratic reforms in the shortest time, even if the members of the Committee consider this possibility as premature. <\/p>\n

Yet, the Christian-Democratic MP pointed out that the possibility of ending the monitoring process will be discussed at the PACE meeting. According to him, this will facilitate the dialogue between the Republic of Moldova and the European Union. <\/p>\n

On the other hand, the organizers of the press conference have mentioned that Josette Durrieu, co-lecturer for the Republic of Moldova at the PACE, is for organizing parliamentary elections in Transdniestria only after the democratization and demilitarization of the region. According to the members of the Moldovan delegation, Mrs. Durrieu was “confused by the fact that the Russian Federation and the OSCE intend to organize elections in the region without taking into account the position of Moldova”. <\/p>\n

The Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe has been monitoring the Republic of Moldova for more than ten years, the longest period in the CE history.
