A new political party IN Moldova, the European Party (PE), will hold on Saturday a congress of constitution. Leaders and ruling bodies will be elected at the meeting, which will also adopt the program and status of the party. <\/p>\n

Sources in the PE initiative group told BASA that the 5,000 signatures necessary to register the party have been already collected. After the congress, the acts for party’s registartion will be submitted to the Ministry of Justice, which is due to study the application within maximum one month. <\/p>\n

Viorel Chimpu, a businessman, is the only candidate for the post of PE chairman. The new party aims to contribute to the formation of a young political elite. PE will be based on a social-liberal doctrine and will struggle for Moldova’s accession to the European Union and to NATO; for a peaceful settlement of the Transnistrian conflict by granting a large degree of autonomy to the breakaway region; for the pullout of all Russian troops and exclusion of the secessionist leaders from the negotiation format. <\/p>\n
