Yuschenko and the Tiraspolean leader agreed on creating a working group that would work out, confirm and monitor the criteria of Transdniestrian region’s democratization and ensurance of transparency in the electoral process. <\/p>\n

According to the quoted source, Smirnov admitted of the possibility of EU monitoring of the Transdniestrian segment of Moldova-Ukraine state border. <\/p>\n

Ukraine has engaged itself to provide the Ukrainian schools from the region with textbooks and to increase the number of scholarships in the Ukrainian education institutions for youths from the Transdniestrian region of Moldova, Ukrainian presidential press service informs. <\/p>\n

On the other hand, Russia is also willing to accept the scenario. Russian Minister of Foreign Affairs Serghei Lavrov was quoted Thursday by RIA Novosti as saying that Russia is examining Yushchenko’s plan for settling the Transdniestrian conflict and is willing to work on the basis of this document, but “using some provisions of the Kozak memorandum”. <\/p>\n

At the same time, Lavrov mentioned that official Chisinau’s attempts to settle the Transdniestrian conflict without the participation of the Transdniestrian side are doomed to failure. “None of the conflicts from the civilized practice was settled in this way. Only the parties involved can sit at the negotiation table, and the mediators can just offer them help,” stated Lavrov. <\/p>\n

Asked by REPORTER.MD, Minister of Reintegration of Moldova Vasile Sova stated that Chisinau does not comment yet on the Transdniestrian side’s acceptance of the Ukrainian plan. Sova mentioned that Moldovan authorities expect to be officially informed by the Ukrainian side about the results of the meeting of President Viktor Yushchenko and separatist leader Igor Smirnov. <\/p>\n

The plan for Transdniestrian conflict’s settlement was approved by the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine on May 13. It was presented by President Viktor Yushchenko on April 22, at the GUUAM Summit in Chisinau.
