Info-Prim-Neo \/\/ The Transdniestrian dispute is one of the major issues of Ukrainian security, stated Vladimir Gorbaci, the representative of the Euro-Atlantic Integration Institute from Kiev. He made this statement during the international conference “Supreme Security Council – an Instrument for Reaching Decisions in Security and Defense Sectors of Moldova, Ukraine and Romania”, held today (Tuesday) in Chisinau, – reports Info-Prim-Neo. <\/p>\n

According to the cited source, Kiev considers the Transdniestrian dispute as an issue of great importance. This fact has been demonstrated by multiple meetings of Ukrainian officials with other states’ officials with the purpose to discuss about the regulation of this dispute. <\/p>\n

The representative of the Euro-Atlantic Integration Institute of Ukraine emphasized that Kiev representatives also had “non-political interests” in the Transdniestrian region. “The fewest such interests, the sooner could be solved the Transdniestrian issue”, – specified Gorbaci. <\/p>\n

According to the cited source, the criticism of “Iuscenko Plan” on the part of the Republic of Moldova and Romania would marginalize and bring discredit on this document, thus offering Russia the possibility to propose a new “Kozak Plan” in September-October this year. <\/p>\n

Talking about the national security of a country, Viorel Birloin, Secretary of the Supreme Defense Council of Romania, underscored that it could be established only with the contribution of the region’s states. In this connection, he mentioned the importance of Romania joining NATO, as a security factor for this country. <\/p>\n

At the conference there has been mentioned that while in Romania NATO integration was achieved based on a wide national consent, the situation of Ukraine is different. Although Kiev authorities have recently announced the objective of NATO integration, this idea was supported only by around 20% of country’s population. <\/p>\n

According to Arcadie Barbarosie, director of the Public Policies Institute, the institution that organized the given conference, participants in the reunion intend to exchange their opinions pertaining to the activity of the superior security councils of the Republic of Moldova, Romania and Ukraine.
