Info-Prim-Neo \/\/ Petru Railean, President of the Central Electorale Commission (CEC), believes that for the absenteeism of Chisinau inhabitants at the voting sections, there should be blamed the candidates to the capital’s mayor position who did not manage to convince the voters to go to the polls, – reports Info-Prim-Neo. <\/p>\n

On Monday, at a press conference, Petru Railean stated that the summer season was not the main reason that affected the elections of Chisinau municipality mayor. He specified that in other 13 rural localities, where on July 10 also took place the elections for the mayor position, the attendance was good. <\/p>\n

“Candidates (to the position of the general mayor of Chisinau municipality) shall explain why the electors did not go to the polls”, said Railean. <\/p>\n

CEC president said that the repeated elections for the Chisinau municipality mayor position would take place on July 24, this year. Petru Railean expressed his hope that in the repeated elections would participate at least one third of electors, so that the polls could be declared valid. Otherwise, according to the cited source, CEC will fix the new elections’ date, which may be in September-Octomber. <\/p>\n

Petru Railean also mentioned other possibilities for “overcoming the crisis”. CEC may suggest the Parliament to exclude the limit of one third of voters, necessary for the validation of repeated elections. Another option would be the modification of the Constitution with the purpose of entitling the Parliament or the Presidency to name, by a decision or a decree, the mayor of the capital. <\/p>\n
