General Prosecutor’s Office sought from the Parliament to deprive three MPs of the Our Moldova Alliance (AMN) and one Communist MP from their immunities in order to sue them according to some penal cases. AMN leader Serafim Urechean and MPs Vasile Colta, Ion Ciontoloi are suspected of committing offenses of abuse of power and defrauding the public property in extremely large amounts. AMN party stated that the approach of the Prosecutor’s Office has at its basis cases fabricated with political and electoral purposes and represent a continuation of the political repression on the party and leader of the Alliance. <\/p>\n

Speaker Marian Lupu read at the Thursday’s Parliament meeting the approaches of the General Prosecutor’s Office through which it sought from the Parliament to deprive these three AMN MPs from immunity. <\/p>\n

According to the accumulated proofs, Serafim Urechean being Mayor of Chisinau would have defrauded the public budget of at least 239 Th. USD when he bought those 40 ambulances for the municipal Public Health Division. <\/p>\n

MP Vasile Colta is suspected of the fact that as mayor of Hancesti town he has exceeded his authority, he ordered the selling of some trains from locality for symbolic prices in the absence of the Municipal Council and he committed some other offences defrauding the local public budget. <\/p>\n

The third AMN MP, Ion Ciontoloi is suspected in his turn that as president of the Consumption Cooperatives in Tighina defrauded the state of almost one million lei. <\/p>\n

Communist MP Ivan Gutu is suspected of embezzling two million lei of the property of the Council of Edinet district, when he was the president of this district in 2000. <\/p>\n

Those four MPs were not present at Thursday’s meeting of the Parliament but AMN faction made a statement where they said that the approach of the Prosecutor’s Office has at its basis fabricated cases. “We draw the attention of the citizens of the country and international community that simulating the adhesion to the European values, the communist regime of the Republic of Moldova continues to be loyal to its repressive and totalitarian methods which defy the spirit of democracy. As political and parliamentary force, AMN states its firm intention to undertake all the legal measures of disputing and protesting against the involvement of the law enforcement bodies in the fight against the main opposition force,” reads the statement. <\/p>\n

The approaches of the General Prosecutor’s Office were transmitted to the Parliamentary Commission for appointments and immunities, which will examine them during 15 days and will propose its decisions to the Parliament. The MPs will decide through voting the withdrawal or not of the immunities of those three MPs. <\/p>\n
