Moldovan Parliament Chairman Marian Lupu has stated during his news conference today that the official Chisinau is open to a dialog on Transnistrian conflict settlement. <\/p>\n

He refuted assertions that the decisions on the Transnistria problem, adopted by the Moldovan Parliament last Friday, were, allegedly, radical. <\/p>\n

"We do not think so. Those decisions reflected a balanced approach to further definition of a status for the Transnistrian region. Moreover, we have left the door widely open to dialog both inside the country and on the international arena", emphasized Marian Lupu. <\/p>\n

He said the document was a consensus product, and the deputies from all parliamentary factions voted for it. Now the Parliament is going to draft a document concerning a status for the Transnistrian region. <\/p>\n

"I would like to make it perfectly clear: this will not be a document on status for Transnistria. This will only be a document on the main principles that will be used as a basis for determining such status. This will only be the first state that will define a legal field for the Transnistrian settlement, including for holding democratic elections in Transnistria", the Parliament Chairman said. <\/p>\n

He disagreed point blank that the said adopted documents are ousting the Transnistrian side from the negotiation process: "On the contrary, we want to hear the voice of Transnistria residents, the position of people living on the left Dniester bank. Yes we mean the Transnistrian people or their plenipotentiary representatives. That’s exactly why we are speaking about democratization principles in order to have a dialog with such plenipotentiary representatives, not with the ministry of state security which is now the real ruler of Transnistria’s". <\/p>\n

Moldovan Parliament Chairman Marian Lupu disagrees with assertions that Chisinau is waging an anti-Russia course. <\/p>\n

He stated at his news conference today, "The fact that Moldova and Russia have different outlooks on the Transnistrian settlement problem may in no way be regarded as an anti-Russia course. Even though this problem is extremely important and principal, this is only one problem in a broad spectrum of Moldo-Russian relations. It would be silly if we fail to localize this problem and if it imprints on the entire gamma of our bilateral relations". <\/p>\n

Marian Lupu is convinced it is necessary to have a pragmatic approach to the problem, and "to not yield to the emotions of some deputies in the Russian State Duma". <\/p>\n

Answering journalists’ questions about prices in Russian natural gas, Marian Lupu said, "All these are a topic for discussions and negotiations. We have quite many arguments and proposals concerning the functioning of the Moldovagas Moldo-Russian joint company. Indeed, we are supposed to work out a balanced, reasonable, rational approach.
