“Russia is really worried about the intentions of the Parliament of the Republic of Moldova to apply restriction measures in order to settle the Transdniestrian conflict,” stated the official representative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Alecsandr Yakovenko, in Moscow. <\/p>\n

Commenting on the adoption of the Statement and addressing referring to the perspectives of settling the Transdniestrian conflict, Yakovenko underlined that “actually they mean the compulsion on Transdniestrian inhabitants to adhere unconditionally to the constitutional frame of the unitary Moldova, which provokes profound disappointment,” writes Korrespondent.Net. <\/p>\n

“The only way to settle the Transdniestrian conflict is to elaborate at the negotiations a special status for Transdniestria by maintaining the territorial integrity of the Republic of Moldova,” underlined the Russian official. <\/p>\n

Tiraspol also is against the withdrawal of the Russian army from Transdniestria. <\/p>\n

“Our position is unchangeable, the Russian army that came to Transdniestria in 1791, as a result of the Russia-Turkey war, must remain here as long as it corresponds to the official interests of Russia. This position, that was also confirmed by the results of the referendum in March, 1995 reflects the interests of Transdniestria inhabitants”, stated Dmitri Ostapciuk, head of the press service of the ministry of security of the self-proclaimed republic. <\/p>\n

On Friday, June 10, the Parliament of the Republic of Moldova adopted the plan for settling the Transdniestrian conflict. According to this document, Transdniestria is proposed a large autonomy and the Russian army is recommended to leave the region by the end of 2005. <\/p>\n
