President of Serbia and Montenegro Svetozar Marovic is on a 9-10 June official visit to Chisinau, following an invitation by Moldovan President Vladimir Voronin. <\/p>\n

The first-day visit’s agenda included a closed-door meeting of the two heads of state, followed by a joint meeting of the Moldova and Serbia and Montenegro official delegations. <\/p>\n

According to the presidential press service, Voronin and Marovic signed the following joint declaration: <\/p>\n

"The Republic of Moldova and Serbia and Montenegro declare they share the same strategic goals in terms of European integration and willingness to collaborate to achieve them. <\/p>\n

The sides intend to develop relations with the European Union in their capacity of European states which observe the European values and standards, and express their commitment to the consistent fulfilment of the democratic and market economy reforms. <\/p>\n

Moldova and Serbia and Montenegro state about the development of their economic relations on the basis of a continuous and gradual adjustment of the national legislation to the European Union’s principles and norms on free circulation of people, capital, goods and services. <\/p>\n

The sides considered the current problems and prospects to develop the Moldova-Serbia and Montenegro relations, and exchanged information about the social, economic and political processes in the two states. <\/p>\n

The presidents expressed satisfaction with the level of the bilateral political dialogue. <\/p>\n

The top leaders agreed on concrete collaboration means in all the sectors, and stressed that continuously deepening the bilateral cooperation relations between Moldova and Serbia and Montenegro meets the fundamental interests of the two countries. <\/p>\n

The high officials agreed that it is necessary to extend and deepen cooperation in trade, transport and communications, energy, tourism, science and culture, and other fields which meet the strategic goals of social and economic development of the two states. <\/p>\n

The presidents pointed to the importance of the processes of integration and edification of a united Europe, and confirm the need to back each other’s efforts of European integration. <\/p>\n

Vladimir Voronin and Svetozar Marovic reaffirmed Moldova’s and Serbia and Montenegro’s interest to strengthen regional collaboration, particularly within the Stability Pact for South east Europe. <\/p>\n

They expressed willingness to fight against all kinds of international terrorism, and the extension of organised crime. <\/p>\n

Moldovan President and President of Serbia and Montenegro reaffirm their firm conviction on the need to further on develop and consolidate the relations between the two states in accordance with their fundamental interests. The heads of state point to the need of international solidarity to combat terrorism and other challenges and threats to security. <\/p>\n

Taking into account the above mentioned, President of the Republic of Moldova and President of Serbia and Montenegro state the following: <\/p>\n

1. The Republic of Moldova and Serbia and Montenegro declare their commitment to their relations based on friendship and cooperation, and guided by the Charter of the United Nations, the Helsinki Final Act, and other important international documents. <\/p>\n

2. The two states will strengthen the mutually advantageous cooperation both bilaterally and within international and regional organisations and structures, particularly the Central European Initiative, the Danube Cooperation Process, the Stability Pact for South East Europe, the South East European Cooperation Process, etc. <\/p>\n

3. Serbia and Montenegro will back Moldova’s efforts to become a full-fledged member of the South East European Cooperation Process. <\/p>\n

4. The Republic of Moldova and Serbia and Montenegro, following the generally recognised norms of the international right, will tightly cooperate both bilaterally and multilaterally against all the challenges and threats to security, including terrorism, organised crime, and illegal traffic in arms, drugs and human beings. <\/p>\n

5. Serbia and Montenegro welcome the decision of the Moldovan government to open an embassy in Belgrade. <\/p>\n

6. The Republic of Moldova and Serbia and Montenegro will strengthen and extend mutually advantageous relations in economy, trade, transport and communications, energy, tourism, science and culture and other sectors, in order to effectively use the existing potential to heighten the welfare of their citizens. <\/p>\n

7. The Republic of Moldova and Serbia and Montenegro speak for consolidating the juridical basis of the bilateral relations, including in fields such as combating legalisation of revenues coming from illegal activities; migration; tourism; combating organised crime; mutually promoting and protecting investments, etc. <\/p>\n

8. President of the Republic of Moldova and President of Serbia and Montenegro express satisfaction with the signing of the convention on avoiding double taxation on income and property, the agreement on abolishing visa regime for holders of diplomatic and work passports, and the agreement on collaboration in science and culture.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
