Rapporteurs of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) stated on Wednesday in Chisinau that the Republic of Moldova has to implement the recommendations of the Council of Europe and Venice Commission by the end of the year, regarding the functioning of audiovisual, reformation of the judicial and prosecutor’s office system, regarding local public administration, Audit Office and others. Once these actions are finished the Council of Europe could end the period of monitoring our country. <\/p>\n

Co-president of the PACE monitoring commission, French MP Josette Durrieu told the journalists that now when Moldova is politically stable it must implement the reforms it committed itself primarily. "All actions undertaken by Moldova are closely watched by the Council of Europe and I think that after ten years of monitoring there is no place for indulgence any more. We expect that Moldova will implement all the reforms by the end of 2005," stated Durrieu. <\/p>\n

Speaker Marian Lupu said that under this circumstances the Republic of Moldova could not be monitored by the CE any more in the first half of next year.<\/p>\n

PACE co-rapporteur Andre Kvakkested, mentioned in his turn that the monitoring process of Moldova has lasted so long mostly because of the separatist conflict in the Transdniestrian region. "Moldova will have to find the solution to this conflict in the shortest time, and CE is willing to offer all the necessary support to Chisinau in order to identify a durable solution to the conflict," said Kakkestad. According to him, the settlement of the conflict could be achieved through granting a special status to the region from the left bank of the Dniester and continuing the negotiations with the assistance of the European Union.<\/p>\n

Working visit of the PACE MPs to our country ends on Friday, Josette Durrieu and Andre Kvakkestad are going to Komrat and Tiraspol.<\/p>\n
