\nPresident Vladimir Voronin stated in Warsaw that the resolution of the Transdniestrian dispute must not be centered upon the presence of certain military forces, but on separatist region’s democratization. He said that this implies that the negotiating format must be extended by involving the US, EU and Romania. <\/p>\n

The speech delivered by the head of state during the second session of the Council of Europe’s Warsaw Summit on the theme: "Challenges Facing the European Society" concerned mainly the Transdniestrian dispute. “The main instruments for the peaceful and definitive settlement of the Transdniestrian issue is democratization of the region, its population’s access to electronic and printed mass media, liquidation of political police, freedom of activity for political parties and nongovernmental organizations,” said Voronin. The head of state asserted that the rich democratic experience of two new actors, US and EU, is of great importance in the context. That’s why they must be part of the negotiating format alongside Romania, the western neighbor, which will become full-right member of the EU in 2007. <\/p>\n
