The Committee of Political Directors of the South-East Europe Cooperation Process (SEECP) will consider the issue related to awarding of the SEECP full rights member statute to Moldova as priority. <\/p>\n

This decision is part of the Bucharest Declaration signed by SEECP-member states leaders on Wednesday at the end of the 8th summit of chiefs of state and government of this regional engagement.<\/p>\n

The signatories saluted the progress in the process of European integration of states in the region, highlighted the importance to respect the sovereignty, territorial integrity and inviolability of their borders, and the need to support a dialogue for a peaceful settlement of conflicts.<\/p>\n

President Vladimir Voronin, who attended the summit as observer, said that "regional cooperation is a priority of Moldova’s foreign policy" and "it creates a bridge for accession to the European Union (E.U.)." <\/p>\n

Romania’s President Traian Basescu told a news conference after the summit that the Transnistria settlement must be the first step forward Moldova’s integration in the E.U<\/p>\n

"Romania’s official standpoint is that troops of another state must be withdrawn from Moldova’s territory, the Moldovan-Ukrainian border must be secured, and the Smirnov group will not stay there more than one month," Basescu underlined. <\/p>\n

He noted that "Moldova needs a special treatment and Romania will support the territorial integrity of its neighbour without reservations, as a premise for the beginning of the E.U. accession process." <\/p>\n

Taking part in the Bucharest summit were heads of state and government from 10 SEECP-member states. Moldova, who became observer of this regional structure in October 2004, was the only non-member country invited at this event.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
