The Republic of Moldova’s capital city will hold its early mayoral election on July 10. On the same day, eleven more populated areas in Moldova will be electing their mayors, the Central Electoral Commission decided at its sitting today. <\/p>\n

Candidates for the Chisinau Mayor post will be able to submit necessary documents for registration upon the formation of the Chisinau district electoral board. That shall happen by no later than May 31. However, there are grounds to expect that the board will come into being already by May 16. <\/p>\n

Without waiting for the today’s CEC, quite many people in the capital city have already stated wish to fill the vacancy. Among them are former Minister of Construction and Housing Mihai Severovan, MP George Susarenco of the Christian Democratic Popular Party, Liberal Party Chairman Dorin Chirtoaca. <\/p>\n

It is quite possible that other two important political forces – the Communist Party and Moldova Noastra Alliance – will also nominate their candidates for Chisinau Mayor. As for the ruling Communist Party, the names of several prominent personalities can lately be heard in the city as possible candidates, such as former Deputy Prime Minister Vasily Iovv, ex-Minister of Energy Iacob Timciuc, ex-Minister of Transport and Telecommunications Vasile Zgardan, and even incumbent Prime Minister Vasily Tarlev. <\/p>\n

As for the Moldova Noastra Alliance, its possible candidates may be former Premier, currently parliamentarian Dumitru Braghis, incumbent Chisinau Deputy Mayors Mihai Furtuna and Vasile Ursu. <\/p>\n

At the same time, it well may happen that the just resigned Chisinau Mayor Serafim Urechean, who currently heads the Moldova Noastra Alliance parliamentary faction, may decide to run for the high municipal post once again.
