Strasbourg. The leader of the parliamentary Christian Democratic Popular Party faction, Vlad Cubreacov, called upon the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe to adopt a Resolution in support of eastern Serbia’s Romanians. <\/p>\n

At the PACE Session that ended in Strasbourg last week, the Moldovan parliamentarian expressed a deep concern over the cultural and ethnic situation with the Romanian national minority developing in 154 Romanian and 48 mixed populated areas in eastern Serbia. He said that starting from 1833, they are not able to use elementary human and ethnic rights in the society, first and foremost in churches and at state-run schools. <\/p>\n

Vlad Cubreacov expressed regret that "Serbia continues its discrimination politics with respect to ethnic minorities, and uses double standards when it separates 40 thousand Romanians in Vojvodina, officially recognized as an ethnic minority, from the rest hundreds of thousand Romanians in eastern Serbia who would not be recognized as a national minority". <\/p>\n

The Moldovan lawmaker stressed that a xenophobic attitude against the Romanian national minority takes place in Serbia, and such an attitude is inspired by state and church authorities. <\/p>\n

He urged the PACE to demand from the Serbia and Montenegro authorities, and first and foremost from the Government of Serbia, to take resolute measures to put an end to pressure on the Romanian community in eastern Serbia, and to guarantee human rights to that national minority. <\/p>\n

To make the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe accept this statement for consideration, its author is supposed to raise minimum 20 signatures of deputies from various countries. <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
