The Moldovan police yesterday halted a group of Transnistrian education officials at a checkpoint near Bendery town. The experts were going for a meeting organized at the OSCE Chisinau Office by Russian, Ukrainian and OSCE mediators to the Transnistrian conflict settlement. The Tiraspol experts were planning to discuss in Chisinau questions of functioning of Romanian-language schools in the Transnistrian region.<\/p>\n

The Moldovan police officers collected the travelers’ passports "for examination", kept the group at the checkpoint for one hour, and then said the car shall not be let to Chisinau<\/p>\n

Mr. Vitaly Ignatiev of the Transnistrian Ministry of Foreign Affairs pointed out that such unlawful actions by the Moldovan authorities have lately become systematic. Moldova’s repeated attempts to upset dialog on resolving the school problem indicate that certain political forces in Chisinau do not wish a lasting settlement to this problem.<\/p>\n

The Transnistrian foreign ministry indicated that Chisinau deliberately drags the problem solution, and uses the school dispute as a pretext to aggravate confrontation between the sides.<\/p>\n

The ministry notified the Embassies of the Russian Federation, Ukraine and the OSCE Mission to Moldova about the incident, and demanded official explanations from Moldova’s political representative in the Transnistrian settlement process, Minister of Reintegration Vasile Sova.<\/p>\n

Officials in the Ministry of Reintegration failed to comment the incident to Infotag, saying they did not have any information on it, for they were no participants in the said anticipated meeting.<\/p>\n
