Chisinau. During a Thursday’s meeting with Moldovan President Vladimir Voronin, Ambassador Steven R. Mann, Senior Advisor for Eurasia at the U.S Department of State confirmed willingness of the United States to support consolidation of security and democracy in GUUAM countries and the entire European continent, the presidential press-service reported.<\/p>\n

The Ambassador arrived in Chisinau at the head of the U.S delegation to the GUUAM Summit held on Friday.<\/p>\n

In his turn, Vladimir Voronin expressed gratitude to the United States for its interest to the upcoming forum, saying "the attention enjoyed by the Summit derives from the enormous prospects associated with the development of this structure and the implementation of its goals."<\/p>\n

"Cooperation in the areas such as energy, transport, facilitation of goods trade, fighting of separatism and terrorism, and the development of democratic institutions can help the GUUAM-member countries achieve economic progress and integrate in the community of industrialized nations."<\/p>\n

"This, undoubtedly, satisfies the interests of European and international security and stability," stressed Voronin.<\/p>\n

The Chisinau GUUAM Summit will become an important clause in the history of this organization, the Ambassador Mann said.<\/p>\n

The new regional organization, founded as a result of joint efforts of the Black Sea nations united by common interests and problems, is expected to "break the ice" in the Transnistrian conflict settlement, he added.<\/p>\n

The United States and the entire democratic community encourage mutual understanding and support of GUUAM nations in fighting of separatism as a key factor undermining their normal development, said Mann.<\/p>\n

The Moldovan President took the opportunity to thank U.S President George Bush for his congratulations on Vladimir Voronin’s reelection presented in a letter delivered on Thursday saying, "The letter contains very encouraging words with regards to Moldova’s aspirations to achieve territorial reunification and European integration." <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
