Parliamentary opposition, including the Christian Democratic Popular Party (CDPP), the Moldova Noastra Alliance (MNA), and the Democratic Party of Moldova (DP), has taken a dim view on the success of Vasile Tarlev’s new government Work Program for 2005-2009, which is evident from the joint statement released by leaders of the opposition fractions Vlad Cubreacov, Serafim Urechean, and Dumitru Braghis on Tuesday.<\/p>\n

"Given the difficulty of the situation Moldova finds itself in at the moment, the Cabinet, whose quality could have been better had the Premier consulted with other members of the parliament, is going to face enormous difficulties reaching the set objectives (normalization of economy, stimulation of business, attracting of foreign investment, improving of social security, raising salaries, and creating new jobs)," CDPP leader Vlad Cubreacov said.<\/p>\n

He added that although in general the Program reflects Moldova’s logical desire to join the European Union and puts correct accents on the foreign policy issues and the domestic priorities, such as fight against crime and corruption, protection of human rights, improvement of legislation, consolidation of court power and local governments, and democratization of society, the CDPP won’t give its support to the Program.<\/p>\n

In his turn, MNA leader Serafim Urechean stressed that in the last four years Moldova had become the poorest country in Europe.<\/p>\n

The core of the Program should become the integration in the European Union for which purpose the government should have established a Ministry for European Integration. "Unfortunately, they haven’t done it and so the process is now going to be delayed," he said.<\/p>\n

Urechean also accused the Program of being "declarative and lacking commensurable liabilities and measures, as well as concrete macroeconomic gauges compatible with salary raising objectives."<\/p>\n

"A simple calculation shows that in order to bring the average salary to $300 the annual GDP growth must be 15% instead of 6% envisaged by the Program," he said.<\/p>\n

This Program concentrates primarily on the foreign debt issues and the youth and education support and, therefore, its implementation is unlikely to bring Moldova into the European Union, held Urechean.<\/p>\n

"(In light of this), the MNA won’t support this Program because we firmly support the priority of (EU) integration," he said.<\/p>\n

DP leader Dumitru Diakov said although the Program is based on a 4-year working experience it emanates from the political situation of March 6<\/p>\n

"The presented Program is undoubtedly better than all its predecessors; it has taken into account the criticism of recent years and, thus, has been designed as an objective and useful (tool) for the development of the national economy. I believe we should all strive for a democratic and civilized society (in Moldova)."<\/p>\n
