\"\"Tiraspolean leader Igor Smirnov stated in an interview given to the Russian publication "Politiceskii jurnal" that the Transdniestrian side is ready to resume the negotiations on the Transdniestrian issue with Chisinau, mentioning that the current situation depends totally on the efforts of guarantor states: Russia and Ukraine. "These countries said not once that they will not allow Transdniestria’s economic blockade. President Vladimir Putin stated that he would not allow the creation of some reservations in the XXI century, but the blockade is actually the same thing. Economic pressures, economic, informational, diplomatic blockade\/…\/ Logically thinking, the only thing that follows is a war. Only a clear position of Russia and Ukraine could stop such a development of events," mentioned the separatist leader. <\/p>\n

At the same time Smirnov stated that "actually, Transdniestria does not need Moldova." "Why do we need Moldova for? Our economy has developed for 15 years separately from Moldova and we live decently. Our gross product per capita is three times larger than on the right bank of the Dniester. They live thanks to the gasterbeiters. But what will happen if Russia introduces the visa regime? That is why Moldova is so interested in our property, and namely because of this reason Chisinau talks so much about privatization," stated Smirnov. <\/p>\n

Being asked if Moldova might unite with Romania, Smirnov mentioned that "these countries are already united" saying that "Moldova does not have potential to exist on its own." <\/p>\n

Referring to the future of Transdniestria, Smirnov mentioned that he sees the region as an independent state, but added that if the population opted for unification with someone, this would happen.
